What “we handle compliance” means

Being the carrier of record is mostly paperwork, record-keeping and answering questions from people who are entitled to ask. This page describes the categories of work we take on. It is deliberately general: the specifics belong in a partner agreement, not on a website, and we would rather say less here than claim something we would have to walk back.

Registrations and filings

Operating as a carrier carries a standing set of registrations, periodic filings and reporting obligations, at both the federal and state level, that have to be kept current whether or not anything interesting happened that quarter. Missing one is not a technicality — it is the kind of thing that ends a company’s ability to originate calls. We keep ours current, and we keep the records that show it.

We are a small operation and there are only three addresses. Picking the right one is the fastest way to get an answer.

Support — support@unbundlednetworks.com For providers who want to talk to us about carrier-of-record service, and as a last resort for end customers who cannot reach the provider that sold them their service. If you are an end customer, please read support first: your provider can almost certainly help you and we almost certainly cannot.

Legal process

Unbundled Networks is a dba of Cornfield Voice LLC, an Illinois limited liability company. Subpoenas, court orders, search warrants, preservation requests and emergency disclosure requests relating to numbers or calls on our network should be directed to us as the carrier of record.

This policy explains what information we collect and how we handle it, in that role and on this website.

Reporting a number on our network

If a call or text has come from a number for which Unbundled Networks is the carrier of record, you can report it to us. We are a wholesale carrier: the number was assigned to a customer of one of our partners, not to a customer of ours. That does not make it none of our business. Our acceptable use rules apply to every number on our network, and we act on them.

You are almost certainly a customer of one of our partners

If your phone service, your phone number or your bill led you here, we are not the company you are looking for — at least not the one that can help you. Unbundled Networks is the carrier of record behind a number of other VoIP providers. Those providers sell the service, hold the account and do the support. We do not sell phone service to businesses or consumers, and we have never had a customer of our own.

Carrier of record, and not much else

A VoIP company can build a good product, price it well and support it properly, and still be stopped by the part of the business that has nothing to do with any of that: being the carrier of record. Somebody has to be the regulated entity behind the numbers. Somebody has to answer when a regulator, a court or a traceback group asks who is responsible for a call.
